Effect of RLC Transmission Modes for Differentiated Traffic Types in HSDPA via GEO Satellite
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the effect of the Radio Link Control (RLC) operation modes for different types of UMTS traffic over a Satellite High Speed Downlink Packet Access (SHSDPA) air interface. Satellite Systems are expected to complement the terrestrial access network and work with the same core network. The geostationary bent-pipe satellite has been considered for this work. The transmission of different traffic types was observed for both Acknowledge Mode (AM) and Unacknowledged Mode (UM) by investigating the effect of the cross-layer interactions between the application layer and RLC sub-layer of the data link layer. Our aim is to recommend which transmission mode is best for each traffic types and to compare the results with the Terrestrial HSDPA air interface scenario. Traffic management in HSDPA via GEO satellite
Satellite systems are a valid alternative to cover wide areas on the earth and to provide broadband communications to mobile and fixed users. Satellite systems should be able to provide to mobile users the same access characteristics of the terrestrial counterparts. This paper investigates packet scheduling aspects for Satellite Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (S-UMTS) transmissions b...

This paper investigates packet-scheduling aspects for satellite UMTS downlink transmissions in two special cases: High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS). In particular, this paper surveys resource allocation constraints to be considered for HSDPA via satellite and investigates the applicability of Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) in conj...

The Enhanced UMTS Radio Access Network Extensions (EURANE) provided UMTS and HSDPA support in the Network Simulator (NS-2). The main components of EURANE include the Radio Link Control (RLC) layer with the Acknowledged and Unacknowledged Modes, MAC layer for the main UMTS and HSDPA transport channels and a physical-layer simulation tool for simulating the fast channel variations in HSDPA. The paper presents a novel approach for Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) in GEO Satellite Networks based on adaptive predictive control. In the proposed DBA scheme each Satellite Gateway (SG) uses an adaptive predictor to forecast the future input traffic flow along with a bandwidth controller to generate a bandwidth request to the Bandwidth Manager (BM) according to a receding-horizon policy...

In this work we are interested to investigate how the Geostationary (GEO) satellite can be used to employ efficiently High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology supporting Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) in a scenario in which the terrestrial network is not available. An exhaustive simulation campaign has been carried out with the aim to determinate the Satellite-HSDPA (...
